The Colossians had been deceived into not recognizing that all of the work had already been done in Christ; therefore, they were looking at things to do. If we take Christ out of the church we are left with the works of man. Paul corrected them and told them that since they are risen with Christ their focus should be on things above not on things on the earth. (Tom Burke)
