Genesis 32

#316 – June 29, 2003

In Genesis 32, Jacob reaches a pivotal point in his life when God changes his name Jacob, meaning “supplanter,” to Israel, meaning “God commands, or God directs.” In a larger truth, God teaches that what “Jacob” could achieve by the power of the flesh was nothing compared to what “Israel” could achieve as “God commands or directs.” As born again ones, we are now the “Israel” of God, chosen by God, children of the promise, born not of the flesh but of the spirit – born again as sons of God.
