Building, Growing, and Preaching

Jesus Christ told Peter that he (Jesus) would build his church. How could Jesus say this knowing that he would be in heaven and the church was to be built on earth? And if he is the one building the church, what are we supposed to do? After looking at the Scriptures it is very clear that our job is to speak the Word of God concerning Christ, then the Lord adds to the church. [Tom Burke]
