Jesus Christ had told his disciples about what he would have to do in order to redeem mankind, but they didn’t really understand him. So after he was risen most of those who were previously with him did not believe. Mary didn’t believe until she saw Jesus. The men on the road to Emmaus didn’t believe that Christ had risen until he opened the Scriptures to them. Jesus Christ went to the Scriptures to show them that he was the Christ, and Peter went to the Scriptures to proclaim Christ as well on the Day of Pentecost.
