This teaching concludes a three-part series. In this section, we read of Paul’s decision to preach the gospel in Corinth but to forego his right to be supported by them in the material things. As the teaching develops, we see the reason behind his sharing these matters: that just as he has decided, in love, to cover for their weakness, they can decide, in love to cover for the weaknesses of others (as in the matter of meat offered to idols – chapter 8).
Because the topic does not really conclude until 1 Corinthians 11:1, reference is made to several key verses in chapter 10, along with the suggestion that this chapter be studied in order to get the full scope of the matter. [Tom Burke]
